The mechanism of electron transfer reaction of [Fe2(bpy)4O]Cl4 with metabisulphite ions in aqueous acidic medium
Abstract
The stoichiometry and kinetics of oxidation of metabisulphite ions by [Fe2(bpy)4O]Cl4 have been studied spectrophotometrically at max = 520 nm and T =30 + 0.5oC. The rate of the reaction was unaffected by added anions and change in ionic strength of the reaction medium. The reaction has been rationalized in terms of plausible outer-sphere mechanistic pathway via ion-pair intermediate
