Abstract

 The oxidation of Fe(LL)32+ (LL = phen, 2, 2’-bipy, 5,6-(CH3)2-phen, 4,7-(CH3)2-phen,3,4,7,8-(CH3)4-2,2’-bipy and 4,4’-(CH3)2-2,2’-bipy) by aqueous acidic bromine solution at I = 0.5M (H
2SO4/Li2SO4) and T = 25oC has been assessed within the framework of the Marcus theory for outersphere reactions. The observed non-conformity of the electron transfer rate constants for both the rate determining step and the overall reactions of these non-complementary reactions to Marcus theory
has been rationalized by invoking some of the basic assumptions of the Marcus model
